Funding Report for May 2026
Digital private markets fall to €217M in May as funding activity reaches 12-month low
May recorded €216.8 million in online funding across digital lending and regulated crowdfunding platforms, representing a 5 percent decline from April and a 24 percent decrease compared to the same month last year.
Unlike previous months, the slowdown was broadly distributed across the market. Consumer lending, SME financing, and real estate debt all recorded declines, pushing total funding volume to its lowest monthly level in the past twelve months.
Despite the weaker headline figures, investor activity remained concentrated around a handful of platforms. PeerBerry, Income Marketplace, Esketit, Afranga, and CG24 Group all posted strong month-over-month growth, demonstrating that capital continues to rotate toward selected opportunities rather than leaving the market altogether.
What the data shows
May marks the second consecutive monthly decline following March's recovery, suggesting that the rebound was not yet strong enough to establish sustained momentum across the market.
The largest drag on overall funding came from several of the market's biggest participants. Mintos recorded an 11 percent decline, reducing monthly volume by more than €10 million. Profitus fell 39 percent, while Swaper experienced one of the sharpest pullbacks in the market with funding volumes declining 75 percent month-over-month. TWINO also recorded a significant contraction, falling 60 percent from April levels.
At the same time, several platforms delivered strong growth. CG24 Group nearly tripled its monthly funding volume to €12.6 million, becoming the largest direct crowdfunding platform during the month. PeerBerry expanded 35 percent, Income Marketplace grew 34 percent, and Esketit increased 70 percent compared to April. Afranga also continued its recovery, rising 65 percent month-over-month.
Mintos remained the market's largest platform with €79.6 million in monthly funding despite the decline. Together, Mintos and PeerBerry accounted for more than half of all funding tracked during May, highlighting the growing concentration of investor capital among a handful of established platforms.
The overall picture is not one of capital leaving digital private markets entirely. Rather, the data suggests investors are becoming increasingly selective, concentrating allocations on platforms and investment opportunities they know well while reducing exposure elsewhere. Although funding activity remains below last year's levels, capital continues to rotate actively within the ecosystem.
